KPC Ltd Line 6 Presidential Commissioning and Oil Jetty ground breaking ceremony in Kisumu

July 12, 2019

Red Oak Communications is thrilled to highlight our role in the monumental event, the Kenya Pipeline Company Ltd Line 6 Presidential Commissioning, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the Oil Jetty in Kisumu. This event, graced by President Uhuru Kenyatta, marks a significant step towards transforming Kisumu into a regional hub for oil and gas commerce.

Key Achievements:

  1. Kisumu Oil Jetty Construction:
    • The President launched the construction of the Sh1.7 billion Kisumu oil jetty, a project aimed at reclaiming Kenya’s regional fuel market share lost to Tanzania.
    • The jetty, 15% complete as of now, is set to boost throughput in Kisumu by 1 billion liters a year in phase 1, increasing to 3 billion liters per year by 2028.
    • It will enhance the reliability of fuel supply to Uganda, Rwanda, and the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, reducing dependence on the Kisumu-Kampala highway.
  2. Regional Impact:
    • The jetty will facilitate safe oil transportation over Lake Victoria, reducing road traffic and related incidents.
    • KPC’s strategic move, offering a 30% discount on transit products in Kisumu and Eldoret, aims to capture a larger share of the regional fuel market.
  3. Infrastructure Enhancement:
    • The Sinendet-Kisumu pipeline (Line 6) was officially launched by the President, increasing the flow rate of fuel to Kisumu by 350,000 liters per hour.
    • This pipeline, running parallel to existing Line 3, complements the Kisumu oil jetty, improving fuel availability in the Western Kenya region and facilitating exports to neighboring countries.

Economic Impact:

  • President Uhuru emphasized the economic benefits, including job creation and a stimulated economy around Lake Victoria.
  • The projects position Kisumu as a vital maritime transport route, fostering trade between Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Strategic Vision:

  • The combined efforts of the oil jetty and pipeline projects aim to make Kisumu a central point for oil and gas commerce in the region.
  • President Uhuru highlighted the projects’ role in strengthening Kenya’s profile as a key partner in regional and intra-Africa trade.

Red Oak Communications is proud to have contributed to the communication strategy that underscores the transformative impact of these projects on Kisumu’s economic landscape and Kenya’s standing in the regional energy sector.
